Annette Meserve grew up in a time and place where dreams were encouraged, practicalities were instilled, and working to make the world a more compassionate and livable place was a given. She’s spent most of a lifetime, now, searching tree-root crevasses and sidewalk cracks for glimpses into worlds beyond, communing with creatures who appear only on the edge of vision, discovering stories more than creating them.

She’s been writing for the better part of three decades and two of the pieces here, The Planting and a peaceful transfer of power, earned honorable mention in Writers of the Future contests. Many of the poems included were produced for By the Seat of Our Pants, a spoken word performance paired with the displayed artwork of her husband, Gordon Lucero.

When she’s not up the mountain laying in the pine needles, Annette is holed-up most days in her little writing trailer, La Matriz with Ben, the ancient, stuffed bear and her sometimes companions, Biscuit and Triscuit the bakery cats.
